What does being a father mean to you?

Being a father means the world to me! I love it! I feel like it’s my God given purpose! It’s truly an honor and a privilege because not every man gets to have this experience and I thank God every day. I am truly blessed to be a father.

Describe your experience with your father growing up and how that impacted you today.

My experience with my father was overall great. Some ups and downs just like any normal relationship especially through my teenage years but I grew to appreciate what my father was trying to teach me. My father was all about Love, Family, and helping out others any way that you can and that definitely had an impact on me and who I am as a father and as a man.

What things did you take from your experience growing up into your own fatherhood journey?

My father showed love in his way. He was old school but he did show it and say it. I know I love my child, So I’m goin show it through kisses, hugs, playing, etc. with my child. I want my Chelly to know what real love feels like. Also I tell her I love her multiple times a day. She’s going to know what Love sounds like. I never wanted my daughter to have to question what “real love” was so I said I’m goin make sure she knows from me. Also my father was present. We took family trips, and he was at most of my games and shows, etc. I also do that with my daughter. Even though she’s young I know these experiences will lay a good foundation. Now my father did have a temper and a foul mouth. I’ve been working on my temper and not cursing because I remember hurting so bad and questioning sometimes if my dad really loved me all because of how he talked to me sometimes and I don’t want my daughter to have to go through that so I’m working on myself for her. I want her to get the best of me.

Have you had any obstacles on your fatherhood journey?

I’ve had a few obstacles in my fatherhood journey with the law and going through a divorce. I went from being able to see my daughter everyday to only seeing her on “my days.” It’s tough but I make the most of it. I just lean on God and do my best as a man and father.

What advice would you give others new on their fatherhood journey?

Don’t give up! When situations may seem tough, u just gotta keep pushing through. It’ll make u tougher in the long run. And the persistence will pay off. The journey may seem tough but you’ll see it was all worth it through your child.

If you wanted to write a quick note to your father, starting with “Dear Father,” what would it be?

Dear Father, I miss you and I love you. I hope you are proud of me not only as a man but as a father too. Although you never got a chance to meet your grand daughter I just want you to know she’s definitely a Thompson lol. She’s the life of the party, and she loves making people smile. Please continue to watch over me & Chelly. I love you.
