How to Protect Yourself on Today’s Roads

Roads are possibly one of the most important parts of our lives in the 21st century. They allow us to cross the country with ease, traveling at high speeds across smooth surfaces allowing us to get to where we want to go. However, it can be a dangerous place on the roads. There will be an average of 34,000 fatal incidents on the roads every year. You need to know how to keep yourself safe, so carry on reading to know how to!

Watch Out For Road Faults

Road faults are things like potholes, cracks and other things that might be wrong with the road you’re driving on. These are often the cause of most crashes as people swerve to get out of the way of them, many a wreck are caused by poor road conditions, it is infamous for it. If you come across a big pothole or dislodged piece of tarmac, then you should slow down before you approach it. This gives everyone else who is driving around you more time to react to what you’re doing to avoid the road fault, reducing the chance of an accident as they can predict your movements better and can therefore act in accordance.

Keep An Eye On The Speed Limit

Another large factor of accidents is speeds. People will often crash into others because they think the speed limit is still high, but when they go into a 20 zone they end up going into the back of someone because they don’t have the time to slow down. Knowing how fast you can go stops this from happening because if you go the speed that you are meant to you’ll find that your speed is controllable rather than uncontrollable. If you’re unsure of what speed limits are placed where, then read this to get you back up to speed.

Be Mindful Of Intersections And Roundabouts

This is an area where accidents are common. Intersections and roundabouts involve lots of cars moving in different directions, which sounds like a nightmare and so it is! You must be careful when approaching these to make sure nothing happens. When coming up to one, ensure that once your lights go green, no one else is going to be obstructing your path. Don’t assume that because their lights are red people will stop; light jumps happen all the time and can cause a lot of accidents, so just be mindful of it for a few seconds before you go to pull off.

As long as you do just one of these things you will greatly reduce the risk of getting into an accident, regardless of whether it’s just you or with other people involved too. And if the worst does happen and the at-fault driver’s insurance denied claim, knowing you were driving carefully and responsibly can make a big difference when sorting things out afterward. One of the biggest things that cause accidents today are mobile phones, they are a huge distraction and take people’s attention off the road causing mishaps, just like this did! Be wary to keep off your phone and be vigilant at all times to keep everyone in your car and other road users safe.
