What does being a father mean to you?
Means responsibility, teacher, provider, love, leadership, setting example and understanding. Most of all patience.
Describe your experience with your father growing up and how that impacted you today.
It was summers with Dad. I didn’t not spend most of my time with him but the time I did was very impactful. I believe it strained our relationship because it was only summers. I will spend time with my son more consistently because I believe it is the day in and day out routine that is the most impactful.
What things/tools/gems did you take from your experience growing up into your Fatherhood journey today?
To work through discomfort, make sure to build the body, mind and soul! I will guide my son through struggles whether than fix them for him. Struggle builds character.
Have you had any obstacles on your fatherhood journey? If so, explain.
Yes. Patience and to expect the unexpected. To be comfortable with not knowing everything and being welling to learn. Dear Fathers has been a great resource on the journey.
What advice would you give other Fathers on their journey?
Try to learn from other fathers and be comfortable asking for help.
If you could write a quick letter to your father, starting with “Dear Father,” what would you say?
Dear Father, thank you for all the sacrifices you made that I did not recognize when I was younger. And I appreciate the lessons I learned.
