What does being a father mean to you?

Describe your experience with your father growing up and how that impacted you today.

What things did you take from your experience growing up into your own fatherhood journey?

Accountability, raising my family with spiritual values, respect, hard work, and being financially responsible are all things that come to mind when I think of my experiences growing up. I have plenty of examples and memories that are all summed up in those few words and phrases.

Have you had any obstacles on your fatherhood journey?

The biggest obstacle I’ve had on my fatherhood journey is learning to have a balance between work and home life. It’s one thing to be a strong provider, but children (especially boys) need their father present to laugh, talk to, pray with, play with, and even to correct them. Those things are what build the foundation in a father/child relationship. I had to learn that very quickly.

What advice would you give others new on their fatherhood journey?

The advice I would give new fathers on their fatherhood journey is to have patience and just be present in every moment. Enjoy those moments, because children grow up very quickly! Always remember to have fun with your children on the journey as well!

If you could write a quick letter to your father, starting with “Dear Father,” what would you say?

Dear Father,

Thank you, thank you, thank you for being a great example to me of what a father should be to his children. Thank you for putting in the work and never giving up on me. Even when it seemed like I wasn’t listening, I heard every word you said and even what you didn’t say. You’re a big part of the reason I’m the man I am today!
