What does being a father mean to you?
Being a father is a wonderful experience that I am greatly appreciative of. Watching my children grow into their own unique personalities and go through changes, good and bad has been awe inspiring. I’m still learning a lot about life and I’m also learning from them as well.
Describe your experience with your father growing up and how that impacted you today.
What things did you take from your experience growing up into your own fatherhood journey?
I do notice similarities in our personalities. I remember my father had a sense of humor which I share with my kids and a sternness when he was upset or serious about things me and my brother were up to.
Have you had any obstacles on your fatherhood journey?
The greatest obstacle was becoming a single father after the passing of their mother on April 27, 2020. I’m still adjusting to being a single father and doing the very best that I can for my two kids because now everything rests on my sole shoulders.
What advice would you give others new on their fatherhood journey?
Be patient. You are still learning and growing during the process as well. None of us are perfect and we are all doing our best. Treat your boys with kindness. Don’t put pressure on them to grow up so early and take on the task of being a “man“ at an early age. Show your young girls what a great example of a man is with your actions. She should want from a man what she receives from her father emotionally.
If you could write a quick letter to your father, starting with “Dear Father,” what would you say?
Dear Father
I miss you!
