What does being a father mean to you?
It means stewarding one of the greatest gifts God can offer which is life. It means doing all I can to exemplify God in every aspect of who I so as my daughter is exposed to me she is also exposed to Christ.
What things did you take from your experience growing up into your own fatherhood journey?
Because I never had my father pouring love and reassurance into me I make sure that my daughter knows who she is in Christ, that she is valued, that she is loved, and she belongs and has a purpose on this earth.
Have you had any obstacles on your fatherhood journey?
I think the unwavering part of fatherhood is what poses the biggest challenging. It doesn’t let up it’s consistent day in and day out. The balancing act of fatherhood, marriage, work, passions, social life, and friendship is a dance I’m always looking to grow and develop in.
What advice would you give others new on their fatherhood journey?
Understand that this journey is one of uncharted territory. You will experience things you’ve never experienced before and with that you’ll need to be closer to God you have ever been to endure it in a effective way. Prioritize your relationship with God and allow how you operate in fatherhood to flow through that place. Give yourself room to make mistakes and never be afraid to ask for help or guidance.
If you could write a quick letter to your father, starting with “Dear Father,” what would you say?
Dear Father, I don’t hold your absence in my life against you. I truly believe enduring that did hurt and cause some trauma that I am still healing from but it also built my resilience and perseverance. Despite the hardships I faced in life I still ended up exactly where God wanted me. Instead of holding you to the mistakes of your past I want to focus on growing closer with the time we have in the present and future. I love you!
