What does being a father mean to you?

Being a father to me means that I not only get to show younger and older males what a real father looks like but I also get to show my daughters what to look for in a man so that he can also be a father to their children.

Describe your experience with your father growing up and how that impacted you today.

My experience with my father wasn’t always the best but I did learn a lot from him. I learned how to not quit he used to always say that “the name of the game is win baby Win”. Which stuck with me throughout life even when things are hard to always win and I will always win.

What things did you take from your experience growing up into your own fatherhood journey?

One of the biggest things that I took from a negative to a positive was my dad always work religiously. So I understood why he works so much and didn’t get a chance to spend time with us. Because he was trying to build a future where we wouldn’t have to work so much, so now when I’m working I’m teaching my daughters what happens when you work the reason why you have to do the work now so that you can rest later. Do what you have to do so that you can do what you wanna do.

Have you had any obstacles on your fatherhood journey?

One of my biggest obstacles was being mean to my daughter. Sometimes I can be so blunt because I love to correct the wrong but I have to remember l that there’s a person behind the wrong.

What advice would you give others new on their fatherhood journey?

My advice to new fathers is that this thing called fatherhood is a marathon not a sprint. Learn along the way don’t try to repeat or forget the good and bad that your father did. Make your own path leave a trail.

If you could write a quick letter to your father, starting with “Dear Father,” what would you say?

Dear father,
I want to thank you for what you instilled in me throughout these many years of my life. If I could do it all over again I would want to understand more of why you did what you did but I’m happy that I learned from what you did which made me the man that I am today. I learn how to never give up even though I felt like you were being strict. I learned how to be patient even though it seemed like you were taking so long to get to your point. You taught us to stay the course no matter how hard it gets, no matter how frustrated life gets it’s not going to always be easy, but that doesn’t give you a right to quit.. thank you for that.
