What does being a father mean to you?
Everything. Any and everything I do is for my daughter. It means I need to be there every second of every day looking after her. I’m her example. |
Describe your experience with your father growing up and how that impacted you today.
My father was never around after I got adopted as a baby so I never really had a traditional relationship with him growing up like I should have. He passed away when I was about 14. It’s hard but I’m lucky enough to have a father figure that raised me well. It’s impacted me in a way that makes me NEVER want to abandon my own child regardless the situation.
What things did you take from your experience growing up into your own fatherhood journey?
That time is priceless. You can never get it back. These experiences with my daughter mean the world to me because I never got to have them with my own dad. I’m grateful for every moment with her.
Have you had any obstacles on your fatherhood journey?
Of course. Splitting up with her mom was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do. I’m a full time dad while working a part time job. I’m with my daughter every second of every day. We do everything together so of course there will be obstacles but we overcome them every time.
What advice would you give others new on their fatherhood journey?
Patience is key. May sound corny and cliche to some but it’s the truth. I never would have thought I would be where I’m at today with how I was growing up.
If you could write a quick letter to your father, starting with “Dear Father,” what would you say?
Dear father, I how you see the man I’ve become. I hope I make you proud being the father I am. I love you and miss you forever and always.
