Break Free From Routines: Practical Ways to Add More Adventure to Your Life

Life becomes very predictable. As human beings, this is a good thing, as it helps to preserve energy. People also strive for structure and routine. However, there comes a point where, between household responsibilities, daily routines, work commitments and more, people find themselves moving through the same patterns week after week. While stability has its benefits, adventure brings excitement, personal growth, and a fresh perspective. The good news is that adding more adventure to your life doesn’t have to be extreme. You don’t need to do anything expensive or drastic (if you don’t want to). There are plenty of both big and small things that you can do to make changes in your life that may lead to more memorable experiences and a greater sense of fulfillment. To help you add more adventure into your life, here are some things to consider challenging yourself with.

Smaller challenges

Say yes to new experiences

One of the best and easiest ways to introduce more adventure into your life is to become more open to opportunities. Many people automatically decline invitations or avoid unfamiliar situations because they feel comfortable with what they already know. This option means you can keep everything the same, but start to slowly introduce something new. The only way to grow is to move out of your familiar surroundings and comfort zone.

Consider attending a local event, taking a class, trying a new skill, or just going to a different part of the city that you live in that you haven’t explored before. The options are endless, and something even very small can break up routine and introduce you to new experiences, people, ideas, and interests.

Spend more time outside

Nature is amazing. It has a unique way to make your life more adventurous, on a number of different levels. It can encourage you to look around, explore, and give you a welcome break from screens and the typical hustle and bustle of life.

Walks are a great starting point, and if you enjoy them, you can move to mountain hiking. You can also cycle, kayak, paddle board, wild swim, bird watch and much more.

Bigger challenges

Travel to non-tourist places

Don’t just go on a typical vacation. Instead, plan a trip outside the norm. Small towns and rural regions are a great place to start, as they aren’t typically in the tourist brochure but are filled with hidden gems. This kind of travel is more meaningful and can be filled with unexpected discoveries.

Community living

Many people are now opting for RV living or taking up residence in a tiny home. These are a great way to live your life, in a beautiful location, and can inspire things like community, creativity, self-sufficiency, and a stronger connection to the things that truly matter in life. This is a lifestyle that is focused on simplicity, but can bring big adventure to your life.

Adding more adventure to your life doesn’t require dramatic changes. Start choosing a little more curiosity over your routines, saying yes rather than no, and seeing what things will help you move out of your comfort zone.
