Why The Right Car Payment Matters More Than The Right Car Badge

You’ll often know it before you’ve signed the contract. The glow. The fresh scent of new leather. The subtle rush of excitement knowing you could be parking that car at home, outside your office, or at school drop-off. For a second, the logo on the front appears to speak volumes regarding how far along you are in life. Then the payment comes each month.

The Badges Don’t Fit In Your Budget.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting something reliable, comfortable, and cool. A car can certainly give one pride; however, the label is only half the story. The real issue is, will the monthly payments fit into the life you are living?

Your groceries still need to be bought. Your children still need to be provided for. Insurance needs to be paid. Gasoline, tires, maintenance, education expenses, birthdays, emergencies, and all of those other unplanned purchases that appear out of nowhere without asking your permission first all come at some cost.

Manageable Payments Provide Space To Breathe

It’s very possible that the most desirable automobile purchase isn’t the one everyone wants; it might be the one that allows you to rest well at night.

Having enough money for a monthly payment provides room for you to maneuver. You can afford that field trip to the zoo. You can fix that broken dishwasher. You can take a quiet weekend getaway and won’t worry about money because all your money is committed. That’s important, particularly since others rely on you.

View auto financing as practical decision-making and more than just getting approved for something larger. In this case, the objective isn’t merely getting approval. The objective is to select a monthly payment that also puts you back in charge.

Look Beyond The Monthly Amount

While a lower monthly payment may seem attractive, look beyond the surface. Is your term of repayment for the vehicle longer than you had expected? Are you required to make an oversized balloon (lump) payment when the lease expires? Were you charged higher levels of interest over the life of the lease in order to keep the present monthly payment low? The real question is not “Am I able to afford this vehicle this month?” but rather “Will I be able to afford this vehicle comfortably for the entire duration of our agreement?”

Selecting The Vehicle That Works Well With Your Lifestyle

Your vehicle should improve your quality of life. Your vehicle should transport you safely to work. It should accommodate your family. It should allow your finances to flow smoothly and shouldn’t reduce everything else in order for you to afford it.

The logo may generate a sense of pride for a second, yet the proper monthly payment generates something much better: peace, stability, and options.

When you make selections based upon these factors, you aren’t sacrificing, you are establishing a lifestyle in which your vehicle serves you and not vice versa.
