How to Prepare Your Car for the New Baby

There’s this moment new dads have where they sit in the car and think something liek “Okay yeah, this place is about to become a whole different world” Well, obviously it’s not just your car and the upgrades you’re about to give it, your whole word, your whole life is literally about the change for the rest of your life. But getting back to the car, though, it’s not just your car anymore. Basically, it’s a rolling baby station, a snack holder, a mobile nap zone, and sometimes the only place the baby will stop crying for twenty minutes so you can breathe. Like, this is basically going to be everything, and yeah, obviously, some memories will be made here too.

But yeah,  for some reason, every dad goes through the same thing, that weird urge to buy every single accessory possible because it all feels important. But to be entirely honest here, prepping your car for a new baby doesn’t need a shopping spree. Sure, every influencer dad on TikTok or wherever else will sell everything to you, but nah, actually, it’s more about the little things that make those early months a bit easier.

Get the Car Seat Installed Right the First Time

Well, it’s best to start here because, surprisingly, a lot of parents are struggling with the car seat when they’re about to leave the hospital right after the baby is born. And yeah, it’s also true that the car seats are stressful in ways no one warns you about. But why? Well, you follow the instructions, watch three videos, pull the straps like you’re trying to win a tug-of-war, and still think, this cannot possibly be correct. And yes, by all means, it’s all extremely confusing too. But the thing is, once it’s installed properly, life gets easier.

Yeah, sounds overly simple and whatnot, but it’s true. Besides, babies are tiny, but they need that seat in exactly the right spot, and it’s worth having someone double-check it if you’re unsure. There’s nothing worse than trying to fix it in the parking lot while sweating up a storm because you can’t safely install it.

Consider Installing Baby Mirrors and Shades

Believe it or not here, but those little backseat baby mirrors are actually worth it. And not for safety in the big way people online argue about, but because it stops that constant panic of wondering if the baby fell asleep or, well, something scary like SIDS. So, just think about it, you can glance back and think, and immediately feel assured. But even window shades also help more than expected.

It’s pretty obvious here, but babies hate sunlight in their eyes, and you’ll hear about it instantly (but everyone hates the sun in their eyes). If your car needs tinting or an upgrade, then you could look into AGD, because it’s seriously worth reducing that harsh glare in the car. Besides, in the long run, it keeps your car a lot cooler on those hot sunny days.

Keep the Backseat Clear Enough to Function

Most new dads end up with a backseat that slowly becomes a toy store, or a trash bin, a junk drawer, or whatever else. Like, it’s common for there to be a bottle here, a tiny sock there, random wipes, a blanket, two backup blankets, a pacifier that no one remembers owning. Well, that’s just a parent’s car for you, honestly. Just try and keep it clear, just make a routine out of it all.
