Part Time Studies

If you know that you are going to need to go back to education before you can break into your new career, then you can look into part-time studies. You likely have to work to be able to support your children at the moment, and studying is going to have to take a backseat to this. But, that doesn’t mean that there isn’t going to be any time because you can always look into part time studies instead.

Yes, this is going to take longer than if you were studying full time, but that’s not the worst thing in the world. It’s not a race to see how fast you can achieve your goals, it’s about getting to where you want to be in the end while still having been a fantastic parent in the meantime. It’s not always going to be easy, and there are likely going to be times where you want to give up, but that doesn’t mean that you should. Part time is better than not at all, so remember that.

Look Into Side Qualifications

Another thing that you should be doing is looking into side qualifications that will aid you in getting a job in the career that you are looking into. There are various different options here, some of which will be useful no matter what career you want, and others that are going to be far more specific. It’s important that you do your research into any body that you are looking to get qualified with though to make sure that they are accredited themselves. There are plenty of fake companies out there, so you want to be thorough in your research just to be on the safe side.

For example, if you are going to get certified in CPR as you know this makes you more appealing to employers, then you need to do your research into companies that offer this. For example you might search queries such as is national cpr foundation aha approved, yes is the answer. Once you are secure in the knowledge that the company you have chosen is solid, you can then get started.

Late Nights, Early Mornings

Doing this is going to likely require a lot of late nights and early mornings from you, so you’re going to have to determine whether or not it’s worth it. There’s a whole lot of dedication needed for someone to chase a new career when they are a parent, and this is one of the sacrifices that you’re going to make. You don’t want to compromise time with your kids, but you also need to make time to study and this means getting an extra hour in at night or an extra hour to yourself in the morning.

These can really take their toll on you though, so even though you have to do this, you also need to ensure that you’re sleeping enough. Make sure that you are getting enough rest or you’re going to end up struggling to get through the day as it is. There’s already so much to do!

If you find yourself struggling an increasing amount though, we highly recommend that you take a break. Give yourself a day off of moving towards this new career if needed, and allow yourself to rest. Burnout is dangerous, and you’re not going to be any good to anyone if you reach it.

Remember Your Kids Are The Priority

At the end of the day, your kids are the priority. The career that you’re trying to break into likely isn’t going anywhere, and you have got to take the time to spend with your kids now while they are there. They will grow up and live their own life at some point, and they’re not going to be around in the ways that they are now. As such, you need to prioritize your kids, and put your plans on hold if need be. We’re not saying that this is going to be necessary, just that if it is, you have got to be willing to do this.

Sometimes you’re just going to have to go at a slower pace with your career progression because you have things to do with your kids. That’s okay. You have all of the time in the world for this, but you don’t have all of the time in the world with your little ones. They are only going to be little once, and you don’t want to take this time for granted.

Figure Out Some Work Experience

It’s far easier to break into a new career if you have at least some experience with it. As such, it might be worth looking into some work experience and seeing if you can get on the books with someone. Even if it’s just to shadow how things are done, this is something that you can put on your resume when you are applying to jobs in the future. Remember that not all experience has to be a paid job, and if you can show commitment to learning the art of the trade, this is going to be important to your potential employers.

You might not have all of the time in the world so it might be difficult to fit it into your day. However, even if it’s only for a week or two, this is better than not at all.

Research The Career As Much As You Can

In order to be sure about the career that you are considering, you need to do as much research as you can. You need to know all about the career, the industry, what it’s going to take and anything else that you can think of. You need to be fully prepared for what is to come, and that means doing all of the research that you have time for. The last thing that you need is to put so much effort into something like this, only to then find out that it’s not actually what you want at all.

It might turn out that you don’t actually want to pursue this career after having a look into the finer details, and that’s fine! You can find something new, and work on that when you’re sure.

Let Friends And Family Help

The final thing that we’re going to say is that you should let friends and family members help you. Let them take some of the responsibility when they can, because we guarantee they are going to want to help you reach their goals. Sometimes this might mean that they look after your kids for a few hours while you get some studying in, or while you have some rest if this is what is needed. Don’t be afraid to ask for help, especially if help has already been offered to you and you were too proud to take it.

Your friends and family members do not want to see you run yourself ragged when there are things that they can do to help. Even if it’s just every now and then, let someone else help you so that you can achieve the things that you want to achieve. There’s nothing wrong with accepting help, and you need to remember that.

We hope that you have found this article helpful, and now see some of the things that you can do in order to chase the career that you want while you are a parent. We understand that this isn’t always easy to do, but we know that you will manage to achieve your dreams while also being the best parent that you can be. It’s a lot of stress and a lot of pressure because you have little eyes on you all of the time, but know that this will just make the victory all the more sweet when it comes around. We wish you the very best of luck, and hope that you manage to see success here going forward.
