Describe your relationship with your Father and how did that impact you?
One word I’d use to describe my relationship with my Father is, honest. He’s always been straightforward and blunt. I didn’t see the value in that until I became an adult and realized that true honesty is a gem. Our relationship is good and I feel like that helps me keep my head held high and it gives me courage through this journey I’m on.
What’s the best thing you’ve learned from your Father?
That family is all that truly matters.
What struggles did you face in your relationship with your Dad and how did you get through them?
Communication got hard after a certain age. I’ll say around 25 we just didn’t talk as much. The way we got through that was me putting my pride to the side and letting him know how lack of communication made me feel. Now we have an understanding.
What has your relationship with your Father taught you about what to look/not look for in your partner?
It taught me how to stay unimpressed until a man’s words, actions, and lifestyle matches who he says he is.
How has your relationship with your Father shaped the woman you are today?
I talk about my Dad pretty often in relation to my personality and my outlook on life. He is very gentle and kind to me but on the outside he can be very militant. I learned to be calm from him and to trust how life plays out without trying to control it.
If you could write a short letter to your father, starting with “Dear Father,” what would you say?
Dear Father, all of your sacrifices weren’t in vain. The way you love us is how I plan to love my future family. There are things that I don’t know, and that I’ll probably never understand…but thank you anyways for persevering through those things to be the Father you are today. I love you, deeply.
