Anthony Rush Jr Says Being a Father is “both exciting and challenging”

Name: Anthony Rush, Jr. | City: Dallas, TX | IG: RushAnthony

What does being a father mean to you?

Being a father to me means the world. It’s both exciting and challenging. You’re not only responsible for your life but also another life that is being raised from scratch. It’s a beautiful thing to have the opportunity to shape and mold a little ones character.

Describe your experience with your father growing up and how that impacted you today.

My father was and is my super-hero. He instilled wisdom and love into me since day 1. Always shared the importance of being an African American , but most importantly of being a God fearing man.

These are things I strive to give to my kids, in hopes that it sticks and they too will follow the Lord and love as he does.

What things did you take from your experience growing up into your own fatherhood journey?

The top three things I seen on display from my dad was hard work, devotion to God, and importance of family.

These are three things that I put above all else when it comes to being a father, I’m still learning as I grow but these are core values that I operate from as a father.

Have you had any obstacles on your fatherhood journey?

Yes, I think unlearning some of that toughness that was displayed to me as a kid. Tough love is something I seen a lot of. But not all kids are the same and those tactics might not work.

So being vulnerable and nurturing is something I’ve been working hard to display to my kids daily.

What advice would you give others new on their fatherhood journey?

It takes time, don’t get down on yourself it’s a process for you just like it is for your kids.

Keep taking everyday to try and be better then you were yesterday and keep God first, the rest will fall into place.

If you could write a quick letter to your father, starting with “Dear Father,” what would you say?

Dear Father, thank you for being the best role model and dad I could have ever asked for. You have been a constant example of love and dedication all of my life. You’ve been a stand up man of God showing your flaws and weaknesses with no problem.
If I can be half the father that you are then that will be a blessing. I love you.
