What does being a father mean to you?

Being a father makes me feel like I have achieved something. I thought I missed the boat as I was approaching 50 but God granted my prayers. I love my daughter so much.

Describe your experience with your father growing up and how that impacted you today.

One thing I can say about my dad. He was a very strict man. Our relationship wasn’t the best but because I’m a dad now, I can respect fatherhood.

What things did you take from your experience growing up into your own fatherhood journey?

I believe that kids have choices that parents sometimes won’t understand. Let kids be themselves without forcing them or not being supportive.

Have you had any obstacles on your fatherhood journey?

My biggest obstacle is trying to shut down my own bad habits so my daughter doesn’t pick them up.

What advice would you give others new on their fatherhood journey?

Be patient. Be understanding. Remember it’s not about you. It’s about y’all now. Being present is VERY important. Things can’t replace your time with you child

If you could write a quick letter to your father, starting with “Dear Father,” what would you say?

Dear Father, thank you for not killing me. LOL
