What does being a father mean to you?
Being a father is everything to me. It actually gives me a reason to wake up and move forward throughout the day and even when life gets hard I know there is somebody who depends on me day in and out to come back home.
Describe your experience with your father growing up and how that impacted you today.
The experience with my father was bitter sweet. He was there but he really wasn’t present during my upbringing. Once my my parents got divorced it’s like he divorced the both of us. It left me trying to figure out how to be a man and figuring out what fatherhood meant on my own.
What things did you take from your experience growing up into your own fatherhood journey?
I took that it really doesn’t take alot to make a child happy. You can buy them the world and they will forget it in a day, but if you give them the world it will last forever.
Have you had any obstacles on your fatherhood journey? If so, explain.
My biggest obstacle as a father is trying to be an active co-parent. It’s tough trying to raise a child through distance, makes it worse when you have a daughter.
What advice would you give others new on their fatherhood journey?
Take it one day at a time. Everday there will be a new experience and not to be to hard on themselves on what others think a great father should be.
If you could write a quick letter to your father, starting with “Dear Father,” what would you say?
Dear Father, First and foremost, I thank you for bringing me into this world. Also for instilling a hard work ethic in me from day one. Lastly, I understand as a man what you want through as a father and see how difficult the road was and I appreciate learning from you gave me.
