What does being a father mean to you?
Being a father means everything to me. I really didn’t have meaningful relationship with my dad until I got older. Met him when I was 10 and even today the relationship still isn’t quite there. With my daughter I’ve been here since day 1. Dr appointments, 3d ultrasounds, baby shower. Which I planned by the way. I’ve always been there. And now I dedicate my life to making sure my daughter is well taken care of and I try to find things to do to keep us busy every weekend. She’s only 5 months old at the moment but we have a lifetime to go.
Describe your experience with your father growing up and how that impacted you today.
Met my dad at 10. Even as a adult the relationship still isn’t quite there. It’s all good though. We get along fine
What things did you take from your experience growing up into your own fatherhood journey?
Not many. Only the absence which leads to me never wanting to leave my daughter alone
Have you had any obstacles on your fatherhood journey? If so, explain.
None so far. She got sick when she got her 3 month shots and I had to nurse her back to health. Now she is teething so sometimes she can get rowdy
What advice would you give others new on their fatherhood journey?
Don’t try to do things. Just do them. Stay in the child’s life from day one and stay on track with raising a healthy child and providing all the things that you wish you would have had when you were growing up
If you could write a quick letter to your father, starting with “Dear Father,” what would you say?
Dear father, have a plan. Don’t make spontaneous decisions and then try to play catch up. Take care of what you need to take care of from the jump. If you stay ready you don’t have to get ready
