What does being a father mean to you?
Being a father to me means being reborn with a definite purpose. My daughter.
Describe your experience with your father growing up and how that impacted you today.
My father left me on my moms door step and told me to lose his number. He came back 20 years later, it was too late to rebuild anything. I remember having to ask my mom things I knew a father should be answering. My daughter will be able to ask those questions.
What things did you take from your experience growing up into your own fatherhood journey?
My mother always stressed the importance of a tight knit family unit at home. So I strive more to understand my Queen. My daughter will be raised with both parents, which I don’t see in my community very often.
Have you had any obstacles on your fatherhood journey?
I really can’t list any obstacles. It has been very easy to transition to fatherhood. It’s still early though. So far the hardest part was making sure I pulled her out right.
What advice would you give others new on their fatherhood journey?
You are your child’s first teacher. Success or failure is taught at home first.
If you could write a quick letter to your father, starting with “Dear Father,” what would you say?
Dear Father, thanks for having me and leaving me. I forgive you and appreciate the strength and clarity that situation brought to my intellect.
