What does being a father mean to you?
Describe your experience with your father growing up and how that impacted you today.
My relationship with my father soured when I was around 12 years old because I believed at that age my eyes had seen enough and knew enough about the world and people so I constantly rebelled furthering my distance from my father.
Once I got out into the world I felt as if I was in the middle of the burning forest and that experience triggered the many lessons my father tried to teach yet I never digested until then. Humbled by life nearly 15 years later I reconnected with my father with the understanding that he was always there.
What things did you take from your experience growing up into your own fatherhood journey?
Have you had any obstacles on your fatherhood journey?
There is a constant and continuous obstacle that I face as a father is that I cannot protect them from everything. The slow acceptance of that has lead me to focus more on creating memories and talking obstacles and how to navigate through them.
What advice would you give others new on their fatherhood journey?
If you could write a quick letter to your father, starting with “Dear Father,” what would you say?
Dear Father,
I understand the value and effects decisions have and understand one of the greatest lessons you taught me. Being that what you did yesterday affects your today and what you to today affects your tomorrow.
Thank you for your example of commitment, resilience, compassion, patience, and leadership.
