What does being a father mean to you?
The role of a father means that you have a very important in the lives of your children, which will ultimately affect your grandchildren, great grandchildren, etc.
Ultimately a father is one who has been hand selected from the Lord, who is called upon to be the head and the protector for the family, and to be a great example of Christ’s love by being loving towards the children’s mother.
<Genesis 18:19 For I have chosen him, so that he will direct his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing what is right and just>
Describe your experience with your father growing up and how that impacted you today.
What things did you take from your experience growing up into your own fatherhood journey?
A few things that I take from my personal experience growing up into my fatherhood included the following:
*Spend Quality Time with your kids – Given that my father was a longshoreman and an elder, he personal time with me and my siblings were very limited (we never took family vacations, I was not allowed to play little league organized sports, etc )
*Church is not your entire life – You can have fun and travel and still serve the Lord
*Experience new things with your kids – travel, travel, travel!
Have you had any obstacles on your fatherhood journey?
At this moment in my life, I haven’t had any obstacles as yet. However, I’m sure they are around the corner as my 4 kids get older.
What advice would you give others new on their fatherhood journey?
A few bits of advice for new fathers would be the following:
*Continue to pray and thank the Lord for your kids (Some others may not get the opportunity)
*Think before you act – (You now have children looking and imitating your every move)
*Try your best to leave an everlasting legacy for your children
If you could write a quick letter to your father, starting with “Dear Father,” what would you say?
Dear Father,
You are missed everyday and I think about you constantly. Guess what? You now have 4 grandkids – Laila, Joyelle, Ryleigh, and Tristan. I’m doing quite well, still in Georgia but we now have moved out the suburbs 🙂 I head home to Nola’s 3x times a year to check on our family home, see relatives, and pay my respects at your gravesite. I’m so thankful that I had a great Father in my life, one who was present and did his best to leave a rich Walker legacy. Even in you absence, you are still my guiding light.
Will
