What does being a father mean to you?
It means everything. My daughter is my life and my light. Everything I am and everything that I strive for is for her. I’ll give her the world or die trying!
Describe your experience with your father growing up and how that impacted you today.
I didn’t meet my pops until I was 15. He didn’t know I was his son so I will say when he found out he made a point to get to know me. I’m 32 now and we’re on very good terms and have been since we met.
What things did you take from your experience growing up into your own fatherhood journey?
I grew up watching a lot of broken homes, and I also grew up seeing a lot of good fathers so I was able to see how I didn’t want to raise my kid and how I did want to raise my kid.
Have you had any obstacles on your fatherhood journey?
Well my daughter lives in a different state. It makes it tough because I miss her a lot but her mother and I work very hard to make sure I’m able to be as present as possible in her life.
What advice would you give others new on their fatherhood journey?
Take advice but just know that there’s no one way to raise a child. Whatever works for you and your partner you do that no matter what anyone says.
If you could write a quick letter to your father, starting with “Dear Father,” what would you say?
Dear Father,
I get it. I know you were young and were doing the best you could. I’m just glad we were able to meet and have the relationship we have right now.
