What does being a father mean to you?
Being a father is the greatest blessing of my life. Has taunt me humility in every fashion of the word. Being a father means, your NOT allowed to give up. No matter the cost. Having a real relationship with Christ is essential to being a father. Showing my son how to build that relationship. As well as its importance To his development as a man.
Describe your experience with your father growing up and how that impacted you today.
What things did you take from your experience growing up into your own fatherhood journey?
Biggest take away, never give up. In helping my son grow I want to teach him to meet every challenge squarely face to face. Find a way to succeed. That’s what my dad showed me. That same relationship that put in me with Christ, I want to teach my son through my actions. My dad taught through being a walking example. I want to be the same for my son.
Have you had any obstacles on your fatherhood journey?
My fatherhood journey began in adolescence. 19 having experienced abortions, miscarriages. For a time I believed I was unfit to be a father. To becoming a step father and finally a child of my own to enter the world. Only to be met with disappointment through DNA test, that this child belonged to another man. But, God is good and blessed me with my own son. The greatest of any challenge thus far has been the test of patience. As well as making sure I’m doing the right thing in providing for my family.
What advice would you give others new on their fatherhood journey?
Build a relationship with God. Be patient with your children. As well as be patient with your children’s mother. Put away old bad habits. Or child watches everything you do. So what you give up on, goals you don’t achieve, love you don’t give, he see’s. Be the man you want him to be.
If you could write a quick letter to your father, starting with “Dear Father,” what would you say?
Dear father, thank you. Thank you for being that walking example. As a child when asked, “ who is your superhero”? I asked an action figure or cartoon. As an adult, when faced with the same question. I answer, “my father”. Love you pop ✊??
