What does being a father mean to you?
It means that I have the privilege, honor and responsibility of guiding this precious little person through this crazy world.
Describe your experience with your father growing up and how that impacted you today.
I was born when my dad was in college. I bring up him being young because I feel that actually gave him an advantage. He was able to find such a balance between being a Father and being one of my best friends. A balance I will strive for with my children as well.
What things did you take from your experience growing up into your own fatherhood journey?
First, there are levels to patience. Second children are amazing, and when they are yours something as simple as rolling over makes your day. Lastly I understand that “Happy Wife = Happy Life = Happy Kids”
Have you had any obstacles on your fatherhood journey?
The most relevant obstacle I’ve encountered on this fatherhood journey would be SELF Doubt.
“Am I good enough?” “Is this good enough?”
“Does she have everything they need?” Etc.
That can be very emotionally taxing but I know I am on the right track by even being aware.
What advice would you give others new on their fatherhood journey?
My advice to new fathers is to
Be PRESENT, PATIENT & PURPOSEFUL!
Present in all aspects of your child’s life.
Patient with yourself for all the things you don’t know and all the things you will learn.
Purposeful in the planning and designing of your child’s future.
If you could write a quick letter to your father, starting with “Dear Father,” what would you say?
Dear Father,
Thank you for these 2 simple gems below:
“ Life is a marathon, not a sprint”
“Humble yourself because life will humble you!”
Both of these resonated with me so clearly and really help to shape the man I am and the father I am becoming.
Name some other fathers you cosign.
