What does being a father mean to you?
Setting the standard and bar for your family, taking lead, overcoming stigmas, and masculinity traps to further the understanding of of what it takes to be a man/father.
Describe your experience with your father growing up and how that impacted you today.
I had no interaction with my father until I was 22 years old. He built a relationship with me once he knew I was serving in the military making good money and manipulated me while I was trying to fill the void he left with me as a child being an adult man.
What things did you take from your experience growing up into your own fatherhood journey?
It’s a learning process. I realize that it is about thee awareness of the fact that my 2 sons are always looking at my every move to imitate. I am careful of the things I do and strive for greatness so they can pattern my actions as they grow.
Have you had any obstacles on your fatherhood journey?
Yes, being raised by a single mother I had a lot of bottled up emotion and subconsciously I repeated a lot of the ways of discipline that hurt me as a child.
What advice would you give others new on their fatherhood journey?
Be what you never had.
If you could write a quick letter to your father, starting with “Dear Father,” what would you say?
Dear Father, I promise I will be nothing like you, nonetheless I forgive you.
Name some other fathers you cosign.
