What does being a father mean to you?
Fatherhood is everything to me. Fatherhood to me is love, responsibility and accountability.
Describe your experience with your father growing up and how that impacted you today.
My experience with my father was interesting growing up. I am the second born of a family of 9 kids. The way he balanced his work life to make us happy is what I love most about my father. He wouldn’t go out, he stayed home with us and made sure to create an environment to enable us to love our home. That’s why today I love staying home lol.
What things did you take from your experience growing up into your own fatherhood journey?
I learnt that children are very simple. They see through you. When you can’t afford something they notice it before you even notice that they notice. But it doesn’t take alot to make them happy. They watch your energy so if you stay positive you win their heart.
Have you had any obstacles on your fatherhood journey?
My biggest obstacle is patience while teaching. Sometimes I fall into this trap of thinking that my kid is not a fast reader or fast learner at this or that. But that’s a mistake because God created everybody special, so I remind myself of that and move on.
What advice would you give others new on their fatherhood journey?
The journey is much more important than the destination, And Time is important so you have to take time to learn and observe. There’s no real playbook outside of patience because you will learn alot from your child. So take time to observe and enjoy the journey.
If you could write a quick letter to your father, starting with “Dear Father,” what would you say?
Dear Father, You’re amazing for showing me how to be a man of God first, and teaching me about hard work and real family values. I love you for that.
