What does being a father mean to you?
To me being a father means that you are a protector, provider, teacher, leader, confidant and friend. Someone who can teach right from wrong and love unconditionally.
Describe your experience with your father growing up and how that impacted you today.
My father was the neighborhood dad and was very well respected. Growing up he was very hard working and family oriented. So maintaining those values have been very influential in my life especially as a father.
What things did you take from your experience growing up into your own fatherhood journey?
I make it a point to tell my daughter that I loved her daily. Growing up I didn’t have that type of relationship with my parents, so when I became a father it was very important to me.
Have you had any obstacles on your fatherhood journey? If so, explain.
As a single father of a girl, I encountered many obstacles along the way. Many being the misconceptions that society has when the father is the custodial parent.
What advice would you give others new on their fatherhood journey?
Your time is the most important thing as a parent, so spend it wisely. Make memories, laugh often and most importantly don’t be so hard on yourself. .Just be the best version of you and the rest will work itself out.
If you wanted to write a quick letter to your father, starting with “Dear Father,” what would you say?
Dear Father.
Thank you for being you. Thank you for being the epitome of a man that has shaped me to be the father that I am today.
