What does being a father mean to you?
It means everything.
Describe your experience with your father growing up and how that impacted you today.
Growing up my father was strict and very formal and did not show much emotions. He was about discipline and education, but every now and then he would do something that made me see that he paid attention to other aspects of my life. His long of education and random facts gave me a thirst for knowledge which I appreciate in adulthood.
What things did you take from your experience growing up into your own fatherhood journey?
I take every thing positive with me in my own journey. As a child even as an adult I always lamented how my dad is not affection physically like alot of Caribbean fathers.( No hugs and kisses only firm handshakes ). So I make an effort with my kids to be super affectionate and kiss and hug my kids everyday and tell them I love them. I want to fix that for myself. Even as an adult I try to get over it and hug my father’s even if I find it awkward. He just smiles and let’s me. When he shakes my son’s hand. I also tell my son to hug him.
What advice would you give others new on their fatherhood journey?
Just be present. Get off the phones and tablets and play with them talk to them about everything and nothing. Even if their stories makes no sense. If your job provides and give you time with them. Do not chase money or better jobs that will take away from the time you spend with them.its not worth it. You have plenty of time to make money later in life.

Dear Father,
Thank you for making me who I am today.
