Describe your relationship with your Father and how did that impact you?
Having a relationship with my father has taught me so much in life. Moving with him in the middle of my high school year was challenging. It was him and my pop(grandad) He showed me how to do things myself but also gave the nurturing I needed as a teenage girl. As a grown woman now I appreciate it because I know there is no need to settle for anything in life.
What’s the best thing you’ve learned from your Father?
My hustle mentality and that I can always have fun and enjoy life no matter my age. Do what is best for me because I only have one life.
What struggles did you face in your relationship with your Dad and how did you get through them?
When I became a mother it broke him because I wasn’t married and I know he wanted what was best for me. Even though I was of age in my early twenties it hurt him. We didn’t talk for almost a year! During that time he realized that his babygirl was growing up but also that I didn’t let becoming a single mother break me but build me. I understood why he was hurt and once I did we were able to heal.
What has your relationship with your Father taught you about what to look/not look for in your partner?
He has taught me to never settle. Have someone who listen to the simple things, he do the simple things. My dad surprises me with random gifts like gift cards, bath soap, home decor, etc. Those are the moments that stands out. I look for a partner like my dad to lead but also can make me feel special with the simple things in life. Nothing is impossible for the one you love. He always said to do life with your Bestfriend.
How has your relationship with your Father shaped the woman you are today?
I’m very shy but my father has taught me to stand up for myself. I’m more confident because of him. He pushes me to see what he sees in me and that is a blessing.
If you could write a short letter to your father, starting with “Dear Father,” what would you say?
Dear Father I may not have lived the life you wanted for me but I’m living the life Jesus has for me that you prepared me for. You molded me into this beautiful strong independent woman who will live life to the fullest because life is too short is your motto. Thank you and I love you forever.
