What does being a father mean to you?

Ultimately it’s just an overall great experience. The love , joy and happiness of it all being able to teach, lead and guide. Also it helps you become more responsible and as a parent your still learning and growing as well atleast for me personally.

Describe your experience with your father growing up and how that impacted you today.

Really didn’t have a good relationship with my father he came around every once in a while but that make be be the man and father I am today because I want to be in my kids lives because of that. It makes me not want to miss out on there lives and I want to be able to be there to support their dreams.

What things/tools/gems did you take from your experience growing up into your Fatherhood journey today?

Just being patient and knowing that you were once their age so don’t be too too hard on them. Show up for events, birthday, banquets etc… Sometimes you have to show tough love. Teach and you can still learn from your kids as well. Don’t be your kids friends but you can still be the fun parent you don’t have to be too strict.

Have you had any obstacles on your fatherhood journey? If so, explain.

Yes I was young when I first had my first child but I believe it saved me. I had a lot of growing to do I pretty much grew up with my daughter she’s 16 now. Her mother and I didn’t always see eye to eye but we are a little more cordial now. Life not always easy so it’s been times I’ve been going through stuff and wasn’t always able to do for her. So it was a financial and stability thing for me.

What advice would you give other Fathers on their journey?

Be there for your kiddos. Show up when they need you. Constantly tell them you love them. They need us as much as they need their mothers. Try to be cordial if possible even when it’s hard or things get hard or tough.

If you could write a quick letter to your father, starting with “Dear Father,” what would you say?

Dear father I hope you are happy with the man I’ve become today. I wish we could’ve had a better relationship growing up but I don’t fault you for that. Wish I could’ve learned a lot from you knowing you were a good man because I got my heart from you as well. Hope you are looking down over your grand kids and me .
