Justin Brim Talks Fatherhood, JOOLS TV, and More.

Tell us more about who you are and what you do?

I’m Justin Brim from Chicago. I’m a father and a husband, and I have started and managed a few businesses. My background is in real estate, and I also run a non-profit organization that helps at-risk youth in Chicago.

Tell us more about JOOLS TV and how that started?

Jools TV is an animation channel that focuses on edutainment. We recreate popular nursery rhymes to fit hip-hop culture and create new stories with teachable moments for the kids.

Why is representation in the media important for our young black kids?

Honestly, representation in animation was the reason we created the channel. We wanted to create a safe place that felt like home for kids of color, and it was extremely important for us to show kids of color and the black family together as a unit!

What can parents learn from tuning into JOOLS TV?

Parents are having the most fun on our channel because, in all of our nursery rhymes, we are implementing what we call “nostalgic nuggets,” which are melodies from the 90s and 2000s. It creates a sense of familiarity with parents, and they have verbalized their approval!

Who is Justin as a Father?

Justin is protective, nurturing, attentive, and fun. I believe in teaching my children how to be strong and morally sound individuals. I also focus on teaching them how to be emotionally intelligent. I try to focus on making special bonds with my boys individually.

What’s one thing you’ve learned about yourself as a Dad since building your brand?

I learned the importance of today. You can put things on hold when you are on the grind and focused on a task. I have learned that I need to live more in the moment, especially when it pertains to doing something with my kids. Time is something you can never get back, so I seize the moment whenever I can.

Is it important for you to teach your kids the importance of ownership? If so, why?

Ownership and legacy are honestly the 2 most important life lessons for me to teach my kids. I think kids that ownership gives you an immeasurable sense of pride. Ownership shows a level of commitment that many don’t have the discipline to obtain.

Any advice for parents grieving the loss of a child?

Find a way to turn your pain into passion. This will change the way you grieve.

Tell us more about your book JJ’s Affirmations?

JJ’s Affirmation is a book that’s so near and dear to me and my family. It’s a way to memorialize our son JJ and teach kids how to love themselves. We always want to ensure that we pour life into the youth. The power of believing in yourself is endless!

What’s next for JOOLS TV? How can people follow you etc?

We are in the midst of creating more content. We are adding longer episodic content to the channel and releasing more shorts! You can follow us on all social media platforms and subscribe to our YouTube channel! @Joolstv_
