Jay Foster Talks Fatherhood, Entrepreneurship and the J5 Brand

Tell us more about who you are and what you do?

My name is Jay but I also go by J5 born and raised in Dallas Tx! Sports has been my life it gave me something to focus on in which helped me graduate high school as well as college, it also gave me the discipline that I utilize everyday in being a father, coach and businessman! I am a Skills trainer/Player Developer I train athletes from ages 5-Pros in Basketball, football, volleyball, and baseball! I focus on building and developing an athlete on and off the court by teaching them financial literacy, marketing, branding, how to move and operate as a brand, as well developing their sport specific skills physically and mentally!

What inspired you to start the J5 Brand?

J5 Is me it’s an umbrella of different entities such as Sports Performance, Community Outreaches, Mentorships, Real Estate Acquisitions all in which I believed would inspire uplift and empower my community! As an athlete myself I always wanted to be more than just the game I played, and when I decided to stop playing I wanted to develop and leave something that would not only enrich the lives of my own family but families throughout the community as well!

Tell us how you balance Fatherhood and Entrepreneurship?

Man it’s honestly an every day struggle! As your children get older there needs change the attention they need changes, so I just make sure that I’m there that I’m present that no matter where I am in the world they know that the can call me text me whatever and I’m there no questions asked. That I take time out to spend quality time with them doing the things that they like to do collectively and as individuals

Define “Legacy” to you?

Legacy to me is a bridge that you build that gives your children, your children’s children access to doors and opportunities that were closed to you! It’s the honorable work that is done that lends a shield of protection but also lays a pathway of a strong foundation for them to fall back on any time they loose their way. It’s an identity to remind them where and who they came from!

Who is Jay Foster as a Father?

Man Im the disciplinarian, the protector, but I’m also the support system, the friend, the safety net! I’m the barbell that holds whatever weight that needs to be carried!

What’s one thing you’ve learned about yourself since being an entrepreneur?

That I’m resilient, that what I do is not for everyone but that does not mean that there is no value in what I do! That my purpose is my purpose and others may not see what I see but I can unapologetically keep stepping forward because I am doing what I was meant to do!

What’s one thing you’ve learned about yourself since becoming a father?

That I don’t have all the answers! I use to feel like a failure like I was inadequate of being a dad when things did not go as planned! But I realizes that I had my first kid at 16 I was a kid myself! There’s no manual for being a parent because every experience is different every kid is different that showing up is 80% of the battle and when it comes to my kids I’ll run through a brick wall. Even when it seems like there no way at all I always show up whether it’s financially, emotionally, physically, or spiritually!

As a Father, do you think it’s important for you to show your children the business side of things and why?

Yes, over the last 2/3 years I’ve learned so much that my parents never taught me! I know they were busy working making sure that I had everything I needed or asked for or maybe even they did not know themselves, but I definitely feel it’s important to show my kids the business side of things! How credit works, how to leverage banks, what interest is how it compounds, the power in ownership, how to diversify, how to be an employee, but also be a boss

How can people learn more about your services, follow you, etc?

People can follow me on social media at J5thebrand there you can get tips on sport techniques, keep up with our community projects and giveaways, as well as keep up with me and my family! If your in the Dallas area or in need of a trainer period I have a facility located at 605 E Palace Pkwy Grand Prairie Tx 75050
