Dad’s Name: Michael

Describe your relationship with your Father and how did that impact you?

I had the pleasure of meeting my father for the first time in my life a few weeks ago. My mom never gave me a name and decided to never tell me who my dad was. I decided to do Ancestry DNA to find family members but I was in luck. Instead of connecting with distant relatives, I found my father. They were stationed together in Germany while they were in the army in the 80s. He did his DNA Nov 2022 and I did mine April 2023. The results came back 50% DNA match. My daughter and I visited DC the first week in June 2023 to meet him and my family. It was a beautiful experience. I’m extremely grateful to know my dad and his side of the family.

What’s the best thing you’ve learned from your Father?

I learned that although he didn’t raise me, I have a lot of his traits and mannerisms.

What struggles did you face in your relationship with your Dad and how did you get through them?

I just met him so I havent faced any struggles yet.

What has your relationship with your Father taught you about what to look/not look for in your partner?

My dad is a good man so I look for good qualities in a spouse.

How has your relationship with your Father shaped the woman you are today?

Not really since we just met. But it has been refreshing that he has wanted to get to know me

If you could write a short letter to your father, starting with “Dear Father,” what would you say?

Dear Father, Thank you for being open to getting to know me and my daughter.
