What does being a father mean to you?

Learning the role of a Father and having the ability to listen to our children for what they are worried about not only what I am concerned about.

Describe your experience with your father growing up and how that impacted you today.

I made up a story at age 5 that my Dad didn’t love me. For 35 years I collected evidence to support that corrupted perception. I was able to reconcile that relationship 8 years before he died . Now I share about our experiences and grieving the loss of his humanness.

What things did you take from your experience growing up into your own fatherhood journey?

Because I thought my Father didn’t love me I raised my 3 daughters the same way. I have been able to restore my relationships with my daughters and took responsibility for my own actions because I was a Father but I wasn’t a Parent.

Have you had any obstacles on your fatherhood journey?

The only issue I had was self confidence and lack of courage because I thought I wasn’t going to be accepted by women being a young Father of two at age 23.

What advice would you give others new on their fatherhood journey?

Discover the wedges that are in the way of the experience of love from your Father. Sometimes men are not educated or had a model of what it was to be a Dad.

If you could write a quick letter to your father, starting with “Dear Father,” what would you say?

Dear Father, Thank you for being the greatest Father here on earth and thank you for introducing me to my Heavenly Father.
