What does being a father mean to you?
Being a father means everything to me. I became more selfless rather than selfish. My daughter and step kids changed my attitude towards life which made me a better man.
Describe your experience with your father growing up and how that impacted you today.
My farther was incarcerated at a pivotal point in my life so I turned to sports to coup with that that missing element. My cousin who’s an HPD officer showed me what it’s like to be a man/hero/father. I’m very thankful for the experiences he gave me as a kid.
What things did you take from your experience growing up into your own fatherhood journey?
I’ve learned to continue moving forward and to change what I expose my kids to. The small things are what matter but most importantly it’s being present in their lives.
Have you had any obstacles on your fatherhood journey?
No real obstacles, just making sure I make time for family after a long day of work.
What advice would you give others new on their fatherhood journey?
I would tell new fathers to stay positive and to keep present in their child life. Being a father is a journey not a race, enjoy the journey.
If you could write a quick letter to your father, starting with “Dear Father,” what would you say?
Dear father, I’m appreciate your effort to provide for me and my brothers. The time you spent behind bars made me bitter but now that I’m older I’m learning to forgive you. Thank you for coming home and being a great grandpa.
