What does being a father mean to you?

Being a father to me means just being there installing morals x character the basic ingredients to being a man a solid individual it ain’t about the money it cost ABSOLUTELY nothing to spend time and that’s what the babies will remember when they’re grown not the latest pair of sneakers but the night in the fort made out of pillows x stuffed animals watching a movie eating snacks.

Describe your experience with your father growing up and how that impacted you today.

Typical story My pops wasn’t around growing up. I met my father for the first time in 2000 I was 10. I didn’t see him again until 16 yrs later at my brothers(his first born) funeral. I had that uncomfortable conversation this year actually Mother’s Day weekend. There’s always 3 sides to a story his her x the truth. You grow up hating someone because you only hear one side all your life. Me x pops cool now I’m grown Im not dead I’m not in jail I’m alright My father not being around showed me what not to be to my son.

What things did you take from your experience growing up into your own fatherhood journey?

Again it cost nothing to spend time. My father not being around has just made me want to be around more be more involved. Before I became a father I stepped up my sons mom had already had a son and for 2/3 yrs before we had the bear it was me x him(tristen) I love him to death he also my son because he broke and robbing me too lol even tho me and their mom isn’t together those 2 are my responsibility.

Have you had any obstacles on your fatherhood journey?

Yes who hasn’t at first I had no idea what I was doing then on a fateful night August 12, 2019 I was in a car accident I was in a coma for 32 days x my left arm is paralyzed I was depressed x suicidal x suffering from anxiety dark dark place but I realized no one’s coming to help no one care I kept waking up so I was alive I’m still tall so my legs work I’m going to keep going! god send me back for a reason and that’s to be here for my son. THE BEAR (brycen) during that time in a dark place I fought my demons back I started a brand called TBN (the bear necessities) “born to endure American racism is necessary in every city.” I found my stitch I’m enjoying it I’m enjoying watching my boy grow I’m enjoying this second lease on life my life finally matters I got up x imma stay up

What advice would you give others new on their fatherhood journey?

Plain x simple Children are your RESPONSIBILITY not your priority, they did not ask to be here so whether your with money or not the babies got nothing to do with it and if it’s that real GO TO COURT you have rights too your a PARENT too

If you could write a quick letter to your father, starting with “Dear Father,” what would you say?

Thank you for not being there you showed me what not to be.
