What does being a father mean to you?
Being a father means a new chapter in my life. The new beginning to give back to teach, encourage, protect, as well as being a hero. That means most to me.
What things did you take from your experience growing up into your own fatherhood journey?
I grew up in a very old school type of setting of parenting. I never got the “why” which was very confusing as a child/teenager growing up. Although I have a 3month old, she will get the “why” when in time of discipline, and also the “why” in times of enjoyment. I learned that the “why” leaves no room for concern, nor resentment later on in life.
What advice would you give others new on their fatherhood journey?
Do your research by reading lots of books on parenting etc, study, watch lots of YouTube videos. Surround yourself around other positive men who are being a great example by being in their kids lives. Be positive, and be there, because being a father IS what makes you a real man.
If you could write a quick letter to your father, starting with “Dear Father,” what would you say?
Dear Father
I am pleased to be able to write this letter to you today. Man to man, I know your ways of teaching was the best that you could possibly do, I understand that now when I didn’t so much as a child. You truly gave me everything you had. Some would say tough love, and maybe that’s what’s best to call it. I turned out strong , with many accomplishments that I’m extremely proud of. Being a 5time World kickboxing champion, and a USA martial arts Hall of fame inductee is a huge deal. I thank God for that everyday, and I am very blessed to have been molded in the best way that you could. That has shaped me well for the world we live in, Today.
