What does being a father mean to you?
Being a father is the best feeling in the world. It literally saved my life. I was going through some dark times and living reckless but when my daughter came and I almost lost my freedom, it gave me perspective. I remember holding her not knowing if I would be in her life or not because I would be taken away. Once I got an opportunity to change my life around I never looked back. I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
Describe your experience with your father growing up and how that impacted you today.
My father was in my life and showed me how to be a man. Everything he taught me I am trying to teach my children. That is a big reason I am the man I am today.
What things did you take from your experience growing up into your own fatherhood journey?
I watched my father change his life from negative to positive. It’s ironic because I did the same, you want your kids to experience the beauty of the world and they are always watching so you have to make sure to set a good example for them to follow after.
Have you had any obstacles on your fatherhood journey?
Dealing with my daughter growing up so fast, it feels like she was just born yesterday.
What advice would you give others new on their fatherhood journey?
Enjoy every single day and cherish every moment with your kids because before you know it they will be all grown up and things will change a lot.
If you could write a quick letter to your father, starting with “Dear Father,” what would you say?
Dear Father, I think you for everything that you have done to help me become a man. Even when I wanted to give up on myself you didn’t give up on me, I thank you and I love you.
