Take us through your thoughts the moment you realized your child was ready to come into this world.
We got a call from the Doctor saying that she would be induced, my heart felt like it was going to jump out of my throat. I was in the highest state of excitement while at the same time feeling an uneasiness and thinking about if I was truly ready. I called my mother and she eased my nerves by saying,” you’re already ready for this, you just have to believe it and it will manifest.”
What were your physical, mental, and emotional feelings while in the delivery room as your child was entering the world.
As he began to crown, I was at a loss for words, I’ve never seen anything so brutal and so beautiful all at the same time. When he came all the way out I must’ve said “That’s me!” 6 or 7 times. He resembled me so much I was paralyzed by the shock and awe. Then when he cried and gazed up at my wife I began to shed tears of joy along with him.
Describe what it felt like holding your child for the first time?
It’s hard to explain but I’ll put it this way; I had a lot of doubt and fear of what the future might’ve held, but in that moment I first held him, all was truly right with the world and my being. To sum it up in one word I’d use the word “Peace” to describe that feeling.
Do you have any advice for fathers who are expecting for the first time?
For all the Fathers to be, learn to be empathetic understanding and patient. Those traits are paramount to the development of your child and just as crucial when dealing the mother of your child. There will be rough times, sleepless nights, missed meals but as a father I feel our role in our families is to provide, protect, and endure.
