What does being a father mean to you?
Being a father means the world to me. Watching my kids grow is such a huge blessing. I’m a provider, protector, and teacher.
Describe your experience with your father growing up and how that impacted you today.
I grew in a two parent household. Both my parents are immigrants from Ghana (West Africa). It was difficult for my father to raise me and my older brother in a culture he wasn’t accustomed to. My father was a great provider and he always made sure that we had the necessities.
What things did you take from your experience growing up into your own fatherhood journey?
My childhood experiences helped me realize that family is over everything.
Have you had any obstacles on your fatherhood journey?
I experienced many obstacles as a young father of three children. I became a father at the age of 19. As a young man I lacked the maturity and wisdom.
What advice would you give others new on their fatherhood journey?
Don’t be afraid to ask for help. You will make mistakes. Be patient. Develop a plan for your life to put yourself in a better position for your family.
If you could write a quick letter to your father, starting with “Dear Father,” what would you say?
Dear father, I watched you work day in and day out. You showed me that quitting is not an option. You were a great provider for your family. I’m so grateful for your hard work as a father. Thank for doing the best you could do for us.
