What does being a father mean to you?
Being a father gives you the ability to lead. Lead them in the right direction. Teach them the things that made you who you are today. Show them the ropes.
Describe your experience with your father growing up and how that impacted you today.
My father was a no excuses type of guy. He taught my brothers and I to not make excuses and just get things done. Also to own up to whatever it was we did and assume the consequences. Learn from it and grow from it. Then keep it moving, that taught me discipline, responsibility and how to make better choices in life and I still use that to date. No excuses, just get it done. My father also taught me that family is always first.
What things did you take from your experience growing up into your own fatherhood journey?
Always putting the children’s happiness above all. I don’t mean by spoiling them with toys and material things (although it’s a small part of it) but just being there with them, for them. Spending time with them. Just being present, changing diapers, taking a stroll down the neighborhood, play with them outside, etc… just being present is key.
Have you had any obstacles on your fatherhood journey?
My Fatherhood journey has definitely been a rollercoaster ride and it has made me a better man. The level of responsibility overall mindset is forever changed, for the better of course. The obstacles you face become easier to overcome because your “why” is just greater than any obstacle.
What advice would you give others new on their fatherhood journey?
Embrace your role in your new journey as a father. Be the man, the provider, the protector. I promise you that the feeling is amazing! Knowing that your family won’t struggle because of you. One more, be there for your wife/partner/BM from the beginning. If it’s scary for you as a new father, imagine what’s it’s like for her? Parenting is a two person job. I guarantee you that the reward your kid(s) Is priceless.
If you wanted to write a quick letter to your father, starting with “Dear Father,” what would you say?
Dear Father,
Thank you! For showing me the ropes. Even though we are in separate countries, every time we speak you drop those gems!
Name some other fathers you cosign.
