What does being a father mean to you?
Being a father means that I have the the privilege of molding, guiding and protecting my legacy. As a parent it’s pretty cool to be introduced to my younger self and to teach everything I know.
Describe your experience with your father growing up and how that impacted you today.
My parents were separated so I didn’t get to see or be with him everyday but our relationship was pretty solid.
What things did you take from your experience growing up into your own fatherhood journey?
I’ve learned that being a good father also means being a good husband. We as fathers are responsible for teaching our children the essence of husbandry as well.
Have you had any obstacles on your fatherhood journey? If so, explain.
I’ve often felt unqualified to raised boys into men being as though I didn’t have many examples of being a great man and father. Although my father was there (in which I am absolutely grateful for) I still felt that there was more for me to learn growing and as and adult stepping into fatherhood.
What advice would you give others new on their fatherhood journey?
Just to trust your ability as a man to lead and guide your children. And if not confident, there’s always someone who’s been in your shoe and has had the same problems and conquered. Seek advice from a seasoned man.
If you wanted to write a quick letter to your father, starting with “Dear Father,” what would you say?
Dear Pops, yo man thank you for being there and loving me the best way that you knew how… and I know you did because of how proud you are of me today. I’m so thankful that you are still around for me to be able to tell you this. Luv ya man!
Name some other fathers you cosign.
