What does being a father mean to you?
It means the world to me because I’m raising the worlds future. I have people looking up to me and depending on me. That just pushes me to be a better version of myself everyday.
Describe your experience with your father growing up and how that impacted you today.
The experiences I had with my dads both Real dad and Step dad were very influential. They served in the military and here I am serving in the military they both showed me how to provide for my family by working hard everyday.
What things did you take from your experience growing up into your own fatherhood journey?
Both of my dads took in children that weren’t biologically theirs and treated them as if they were. It takes a lot for a man to take in a child that’s not his and claim that child as their own. That definitely had a huge impact on me as I’ve done the same.
Have you had any obstacles on your fatherhood journey?
The hardest obstacle that I’m facing on a daily basis is simply knowing that one day my daughters will go out in this world looking for me in a man. You know the saying would you approve of your daughter dating or even marrying a man like you. So that pushes me everyday to show my daughters how a man should treat a woman
Then my sons showing them everyday how to work hard to be able to go out and get their own. Showing them that you don’t have to have multiple women to be a man. Letting them know that it’s very beneficial to establish yourself in your career so that way you have more to offer period. Showing them the love and mentorship that they need so they don’t have to go elsewhere (the streets) looking for it.
What advice would you give others new on their fatherhood journey?
There is no such thing as a perfect father so don’t spend your life trying to be one. We all make mistakes the important thing is doing the best we can and never walking out on our kids when it gets hard. Surround yourself with people that are trying to do better for themselves (legally) and staying positive. You don’t want negativity around you or it will start rubbing off on you. Be careful who you trust around your family and children not everyone has your best interest at heart
If you wanted to write a quick note to your father, starting with “Dear Father,” what would it be?
Dear Father,
You have taught and shown me more than you could ever imagine. You have shown me what to do and most importantly what not to do lol. I want you to know that you don’t have to worry about asking yourself did you do a good job raising me because you did the best you could and you never walked out on me and that’s all that matters. I love you dad keep inspiring me to be Great.
