What does being a father mean to you?
Fatherhood gives me a renewed sense of purpose. It means being a provider, a loving, kind and compassionate role model. An authority figure. Most importantly, the way I treat my child will shape what kind of person they become.
Describe your experience with your father growing up and how that impacted you today.
My Father was a very kind and supportive, extremely hardworking man. He was very successful and made me want to strive for the same. A lot of my friends didn’t have their fathers in their lives, so I counted myself blessed and always desired to be both a Husband and a Father, because that’s what a Man was, that’s who my Dad is.
Have you had any obstacles on your fatherhood journey? If so, explain.
My Wife and I struggled to conceive for over 6 years before we were blessed with our Son, via IVF! Our greatest desire was to become parents.
Having become parents, my Wife had excelled and definitely has the stronger bond with our son.
I have struggled with feeling inadequate at times because I want to play a greater role than what I’m currently capable.
I’ve been told this is normal, however I’m definitely anticipating our relationship flourishing.
What advice would you give others new on their fatherhood journey?
Be the Father that you needed or Try and be better than the one you had. Also seek out someone you see doing a wonderful job and talk through your concerns and experiences with them.
If you wanted to write a quick note to your father, starting with “Dear Father,” what would it be?
Dear Father,
Thank you for being rock solid for our family! You are an amazing Man! I love you Dad!
